Brilliant tenor player – must be, when Brad Mehldau & John Scofield agree to play on your recordings & your own group is playing at the Village Vanguard the week of this webinar.

In addition to leading his own group, Dayna has performed extensively with Kenny Barron, Ambrose Akinmusire, Taylor Eigsti, Julian Lage, Eric Harland, Gerald Clayton, and other contemporaries.

He is a recipient of the number-two spot for the 2017 DownBeat Critics Poll in the category “Rising Star—Tenor Saxophone”

A graduate of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where he studied under artistic icons Terence Blanchard, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, Dayna began his formal studies with a full scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

His albums include The Timeless Now (2007), Today Is Tomorrow (2012), That Nepenthetic Place (2013), I’ll Take My Chances (2013), and Peace (2014).

Peace features Julian Lage, Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier & Eric Harland.
Gratitude was released in 2017.
